About Us

A place of beauty, memory, and enduring care — rooted in 175 years of Jewish life in New York City.

Salem Fields is set on 45 acres at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street in Brooklyn. Beth-El Cemetery is nearby, nestled in the bucolic landscape of Ridgewood, Queens. Together, they form one of the most historically significant Jewish cemetery campuses in the United States. We are here to provide you with the serenity you need to honor your loved ones.

Both cemeteries are easily accessible by major highways and public transit. Parking is available on-site.

Our History

Temple Emanu-El first acquired the land that is now Salem Fields Cemetery in 1851. When Temple Emanu-El and Temple Beth-El later merged, Beth-El Cemetery joined the campus. Today, our 64-acre grounds hold more than 80,000 interment plots and are home to one of the tallest monuments to Civil War veterans in the region.

As one of America’s historic synagogues, Temple Emanu-El brings its Reform Jewish values — in worship, in philanthropy, in service, and in inclusion — to everything we do, including the care and stewardship of these sacred grounds.
